Job overview

We are seeking to recruit a passionate and knowledgeable driver to our small logistics team based in Amberstone, Hailsham. Covering a range of duties and a large area of the trust you will need to have a good geographical knowledge of the Sussex and Hampshire area.

Main duties of the job

To undertake driving and other transport functions using a variety of vehicles and equipment to provide the provision of the courier delivery service, food deliveries and swab collections Trust wide. Maintaining/ensuring safe, reliable, timely and efficient transport and logistics operational standards are achieved at all times

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To undertake routine collection, sorting and delivery of courier post, packages, food deliveries, RDC stores, pathology specimens and other commodities to/from Trust properties and other sites in which Trust staff are based, on a daily basis.
  • Goods to be delivered to the storage point not just to the door with some storage points being up numerous flights of stairs.
  • Adhere to strict delivery timetable/schedule in order to provide a safe, efficient and effective service subject to traffic, road and hazardous weather conditions.
  • Undertake the movement and disposal of furniture and equipment within and between Trust properties as required. This also involves assisting in the preparation of quotes for such ad hoc duties.
  • To ensure vehicles are kept in a safe roadworthy condition at all times and to report any defects, however minor, to the Logistic admin Office using the appropriate documentation.
  • To carry out daily checks (including but not limited to tyres, oil, coolant, screen wash, bodywork and lights) and maintain at appropriate levels or standards of operation.
  • To keep vehicles in a clean condition inside and out.
  • To ensure vehicles are secured and suitably parked when unattended.
  • Maintain vehicle records, including fuel drawn and mileage in the vehicle logbook.
  • Complete as necessary accident report forms, daily work schedules, delivery notes etc.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety at Work, Fire Safety and Manual Handling policies.
  • To record deliveries on delivery system Easytrans - training will be provided
  • To carry out any other duties of a similar nature within the scope and grade of the post.
