Market and Competition Analyst – Training and Simulation 

Location: Crawley

Thales UK have an exciting vacancy for a Market Analyst to support our sector strategic marketing directors by providing analysis, specific reports & deliverables that inform and contribute to their market sector activities, focussed on the military training and simulation market

The UK analyst team offers great opportunities for career progression, with clear competencies and development programmes to build your experience and toolset of analysis techniques.  The team is spread geographically across the UK, but we work both individually and collaboratively in the services we provide to the business and you will have the opportunity to work with other colleagues internationally in support of export activity as well.  There is great variety in the work we do and the team is recognised in the Group as being at the leading edge of best practice in a number of areas, which is enabled by our operating model of mutual support and challenge.

This role will be responsible for providing analysis and insight of markets and competitors relating to the business winning activity and offer development.  The role is transversal in nature, reflecting the market footprint and requires a broad understanding across the domains of air, land and maritime as well as digital offers.

The business winning component of the role is significant and entails the provision of black hat, value prop, partnering / make-team-buy and price to win analyses relating to major prospects.  There is a significant upcoming pipeline of opportunities for this role to service, the position will be based at the Thales Crawley site. While a significant proportion of the role may be carried out from home, some attendance on site will be needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support to business winning activity, to include daily tracking of relevant contract notices and distribution to Sales team in a timely fashion

  • Analysis of data to provide synthesis of key market characteristics & competitor profiling:

  • Market:  Construction of basic forecast models (e.g. aircraft platforms) to provide insight on market size, profile, geography and timescales.  Generating market analysis from these forecast models to provide input to Product Line Managers in support of business case decision reviews.

  • Competitor: capabilities, product offerings, pricing datapoint research; potential partner organisation identification.

  • Supporting the UK Strategy & Marketing Plaza business intelligence system on a daily basis by screening & uploading news articles, reports & analyses etc ensuring that they do not contain any information above ‘Thales Group Internal’ or any classified or company sensitive material.

  • Responsibilities may also include providing support to the main system administrator, covering:

  • Providing usage reports, as required

  • Co-ordinating training for users

  • Supporting the strategic business planning process and MoD key account managers by providing supporting analysis to inform market trends & drivers, market sizing and competitive intensity

  • Stays appraised of key competitor marketing messages and proactively shares these with Comms and the Strategy & Marketing Sector leads to improve Thales’ product positioning

Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of all Defence domains and digital markets

  • Ability to capture customer needs from primary & secondary sources and to synthesise this to support decision making on Thales’ product positioning

  • Driven to build personal network within the business to facilitate sharing and codification of market intelligence

  • Experience in working to deadlines, managing multiple tasks at once

  • Able to build Excel data sets for subsequent manipulation and has a basic grasp of formulas, enabling interpretation of business case or forecast models

  • Understanding of company financial data, financial ratios and general business case principles

  • Able to locate and summarise company financial data

  • Proficient in desk research-based techniques
