Earn while you learn with a salon apprenticeship, this is the best method of starting a career in hairdressing.

Learning the hairdressing craft, whilst working as part of a team in a successful salon, delivering great customer service.

- You will prepare & attend to clients, serve refreshments & assist stylists. This will develop the people skills needed for your career as a hairdresser.

-You will benefit from observing qualified stylists in the salon, something which is not possible from college based training. You will practice models in the salon, as well as spending a whole day at the local college each week while completing the 2 year NVQ Level 2 program.

Duties & Responsibilities:

- To greet, attend to clients with refreshments & prepare for salon services.
- To maintain the salons cleanliness.
- To maintain systems that keep the salon performing to a high standard.
- To learn new skills & services to offer to the public.
- To attend training, practice regularly.
- Work toward the NVQ qualification.

Day release:

Apprentices attend college once a week and all components of the Apprenticeship Framework are covered within day release. Visits are also made to the workplace for observation and assessment.

Mandatory – 20% off the job training.

Apprentices are allocated a Tutor, who visits the apprentice in the workplace every four weeks.

The apprenticeship is made up of the following:

*  Standard (Level 2) – this is where the apprentice demonstrates they have the knowledge, behaviours and skills to meet the criteria of the standard.

*  Functional Skills – if required, are delivered at the college and are made up of English (Reading, Writing, and Speaking & Listening) and Maths.

* Assessment of this qualification will be by an “Synoptic End Point Assessment” and will be graded “Pass” or “Distinction”.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Potentially continued employment within the Salon.

Greater Brighton Metropolitan College (MET) was created from the merger of City College Brighton and Northbrook College Sussex. It is the college for our City and our region and draws on 150 years of heritage, history and experience.
