Job overview

Immunisation Programme Assistant (Crawley) Term Time Only, Part Time, permanent.

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Immunisation Programme Assistant to join the SCFT Sussex Immunisation Service.

The role requires core working hours of 8am-4pm four days a week term time only, with flexibility at either end of the day for packing of vaccines and clinic cover (7/7.30 am to pack on a team rota basis). You will also cover one Saturday clinic per term.

The SCFT Sussex Immunisation Service vaccinates children aged 0-19 years in schools and clinics across West Sussex, East Sussex and Brighton and Hove.

This post will be based in Crawley but all team members support the whole of the SCFT Immunisation Service, so you must be a car owner/driver and be willing to travel to clinics and schools within Sussex.

Main duties of the job

The role will include providing clerical and clinical support in schools, , bases, clinics and patients' homes. You will also be working with hard to reach groups such as travellers and children who are looked after. It is an exciting role as our programmes incorporate the flu vaccinations that are being offered to school children in Primary and Secondary schools, addition to our senior school vaccination programmes.

The successful candidate will prepare the documentation and assist with the running of the vaccination sessions, and be expected to accurately process the completed session paperwork. During our busy flu vaccination period, you would also be involved with giving the flu nasal spray vaccine under supervision of a trained health professional. Full training will be given.

Working for our organisation

As the largest provider of community healthcare services in Sussex, our teams help people to plan for and manage changes to their health, supporting patients and their families to live more independently. We employ over 5,000 full and part time staff, and provide community services to a population of 1.3 million people.

Our vision is to provide excellent care at the heart of the community and achieving the highest level of service is our top priority.

We develop and nurture our staff, and recognise that they are our greatest asset.

We give them clear career pathways, support their wellbeing, recognise and value their diversity and provide them with the leadership, skills and knowledge they need to deliver the best care for our patients now and in the future.

Our innovative and dynamic Immunisation teams are dedicated to improving immunisation uptake and delivering the national evidence-based Schools' Immunisation Programmes. This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly expanding service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will need to demonstrate your familiarity with Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience of data-inputting is preferable but training will be given. Our Service uses an online consent process so IT skills are vital.

The ability to communicate well and remain calm at busy immunisation sessions is essential, as one aspect of the role is providing reassurance to anxious children.

We welcome applicants who can demonstrate a willingness to work flexibly and co-operatively with colleagues; both within their own team and the wider multidisciplinary teams across the whole SCFT area. We are looking for people who are motivated, conscientious and committed to supporting us to maintain high vaccination coverage across Sussex.
