Deputy Head of Payroll

 

Location: Brighton - Moulsecoomb

Salary: £37,474 to £44,737 per annum

An opportunity has arisen to join the Payroll Team at the University of Brighton in an interesting, varied and proactive post.

Some of the key responsibilities of this role include:

• Supporting the Head of Payroll to ensure the provision of an effective, accurate and timely payroll process, with all payment deadlines adhered to.

• Leading the development/enhancement of payroll and pension systems and reporting, and to identify and implement process enhancements to the monthly payroll cycle.

• Managing the performance and development of Payroll Team members that report into this role.

• Providing advice and guidance on payroll and pension matters where required.

• Auditing changes to staff records and payroll administrators' calculations for SSP/SMP to ensure compliance.

• Supporting the Head of Payroll in dealing with internal and external auditors and any other regulatory/audit bodies that are authorised to review the University's payroll/pension records.

• Assist the Head of Payroll with the interface between the payroll system and the main accounting system, ensuring key control accounts are reconciled and any variances between the financial records and underlying payroll data are rectified on a timely basis.

 

To succeed in this role, you will need:

• To be qualified to degree level or equivalent and/or a holder of a relevant professional qualification and/or clearly evidenced equivalent experience.

• Experience of completing both PAYE and pension reporting to regulatory bodies is required.

• To be able to process monthly payroll runs, upgrades and payroll year-ends

• Experience of using a wide range of functions in Excel.

• Ability to manage and develop the Payroll Team

 

This is a full time permanent post, but would be considered on a part-time basis or job share. The post is due to start in October 2022.
