About the role:

L3Harris Training Systems play a key role on delivering the L3Harris Commercial Aviation Solutions mantra of ‘Creating Safer Skies’. From our computer-based solutions all the way to our state-of-the-art Full Flight Simulators (FFS), improving the training experiencing and creating safer skies is at the heart of everything we do. Our Fixed Training Devices (FTD) and FFS feature aircraft-specific flight decks, offering the form, fit, feel, and function of the actual aircraft. Our airline pilot training systems cover the complete training spectrum, whether its systems knowledge, procedure training or jet transition we have the solutions.

We are looking for a Project Manager to join our Programme Department to provide the management of specific delivery programmes in both the delivery of new devices and in the managing of update delivery programmes. The individual will manage a number of programmes at one time as well as support ongoing continuous improvements.

This is the ideal opportunity for an established Project Manager to progress their career to the next stage. The Project Manager will report to the Director of Programmes. Flexibility and home working is currently available for this role. Some international Travel will be required for this role.

This position is based in Crawley, West Sussex and requires attendance at this location a minimum of 3 days per week.

Day to day responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Accountable for ensuring that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Ensure resource availability and allocation
  • Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule and project costs using appropriate verification techniques
  • Work with other internal functions to ensure tasks are understood and work packages are managed
  • Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques
  • Report and escalate to management as needed
  • Manage the relationship with the client and all stakeholders
  • Responsible for ensuring risk and opportunity management is performed on the project to minimize project risks and enable project benefits
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Meet with clients to take detailed ordering briefs and clarify specific requirements of each project
  • Delegate project tasks based on junior staff members' individual strengths, skill sets and experience levels
  • Track project performance, specifically to analyse the successful completion of short and long-term goals
  • Meet budgetary objectives and make adjustments to project constraints based on financial analysis
  • Undertake company driven processes which may alter from time to time to remain efficient and effective as an organisation this may include EAC, EV and reporting templates
  • Develop comprehensive project plans to be shared with clients as well as other staff members
  • Use and continually develop leadership skills
  • Attend conferences and training as required to maintain proficiency
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Develop spreadsheets, diagrams and process maps to document needs
  • Support process documentation and continuous improvement activities within the function and division.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience
  • Proven working experience in project management, preferably within the Aviation or Defence industry in a company producing high value items with a blend of hardware and software specialists
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Solid organisational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time
  • International travel required
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Microsoft project
  • Project Management Professional certification such as APM, PMI, MSP, PRINCE II
