Volunteer Female Mentor - Shoreham/Burgess Hill

The Girls’ Network is an award-winning charity which enables young women to build their skills, confidence and aspirations, encouraging them to create limitless futures. We're now recruiting mentors - why not join us?

At The Girls' Network, we believe that young women should not be limited by their gender, background, or parental income when it comes to achieving their goals and dreams. Working with schools and colleges across England, our programme matches girls and young women aged 14-19, with female mentors who have at least three years’ professional experience and who share a commitment to our aims.

Following safeguarding checks and training, our mentors are matched to a mentee, who they commit to meeting for at least an hour a month over 12 months. In Sussex, meetings are usually held at self-organised appointments, within an hour of where you work or live. We are currently recruiting mentors to train now for programs starting in February and March at schools in Burgess Hill and Shoreham.

As well as a hugely rewarding experience, being a Girls' Network mentor means you’ll build skills in active listening and empathetic leadership, whilst joining a growing community of other women who volunteer their time and expertise to offer a diversity of role models for young people from less advantaged circumstances.

What we ask from our mentors:

  • To attend a mentor training session
  • To attend a speed-networking event where you will meet your mentee
  • To mentor your mentee for 10 x 1 hour sessions over the course of a year
  • To travel to meet your mentee and make the necessary preparations for your sessions (resources provided)

What we provide you with:

  • Intensive training to become the best possible mentor
  • Skills for career development
  • Access to online support and resources
  • The opportunity to be part of a growing network of women across the UK

We are welcoming applications now and are running training sessions now for mentors to be matched with a young woman in February/March in schools in Burgess Hill and Shoreham.

Training sessions (attend one):

  • Monday 21st Nov 5-8pm
  • Thursday 24th Nov 5-8pm
  • Wednesday 30th Nov 5-8pm
  • Saturday 3rd Dec 9am-12noon
  • Monday 5th Dec 5-8pm
  • Saturday 10th Dec 9am-12noon
  • Tuesday 13th Dec 5-8pm
  • Thursday 15th Dec 8.30am-11.30am

More training dates to come in the New Year!

Company

Our mission

Our mission is to inspire and empower girls from the least advantaged communities by connecting them with a mentor and a network of professional role models who are women

Why we do it

We believe

that no girls should have their futures limited by their gender, ethnicity, background, or parental income

We believe

that all girls should be supported to realise their ambitions, to discover their self-worth, and to develop their capacity to shape their world and their future

How we do it

We partner with secondary schools and colleges across Greater London, Sussex, the South Coast, the West Midlands, Greater Manchester, Tyne and Wear, Tees Valley and Merseyside, to match girls aged 14-19 with a volunteer mentor who is a woman.

All our mentors go through an application process and are trained by us in mentoring and safeguarding. Once mentees complete their year-long mentoring journey, they graduate and become part of a lifelong Ambassador Community.
