The Opportunity:

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Manager Baggage Operations to join our engineering team and be part of a new and exciting era at Gatwick Airport.

As part of our ‘Grow with Gatwick' initiative you'll be provided with the necessary development to ensure you're able to Grow with Gatwick.

The MBOs are responsible for the end-to-end baggage delivery process, always seeking opportunities for continuous improvement to maximise operational uptime, reduce disruption and drive operating efficiencies. They work collaboratively with the Ground Handling community ensuring operational safely and efficiency in the baggage halls.

What is the Role:

As a Manager Baggage Operationsyou will be responsible for:

  1. Management through visibility in the baggage environment, influencing stakeholder and contractor behaviour to ensure a safe working environment, carrying out documented inspections and recording outcomes where appropriate.
  2. Monitor housekeeping standards and working practices within all baggage areas. Identify areas for improvement utilising experience and knowledge, and work with Baggage Terminals Lead and stakeholders to deliver change.
  3. Overseeing operational delivery of outbound baggage from check-in to baggage hall make ups, working to minimise the impact of any system performance issues and taking appropriate action to mitigate against system faults.
  4. Responsible for robust investigation of any short, shipped bags, liaising with engineering and GHAs to understand root cause. Documenting all relevant data and using trends to drive a reduction in short, shipped baggage.
  5. Responsible for contingency deployment across all baggage areas - implementing contingencies as required to support the duty team, and ensure information is provided to internal and external stakeholders to allow appropriate response measures.
  6. Report operational issues directly to Engineering team and stakeholders in a timely manner and support through to resolution.
  7. Provide plant access windows with contractors and Engineering to enable planned and reactive maintenance to be undertaken with no impact on baggage capacity or resilience.
