Job overview

East Sussex County Council are excited to announce the launch of our new Connected Families Service; for families with children aged 11-17 who are on the edge of care. The Connected Families Service will bring together Intensive Support Practitioners, Connected Coaches, a Multi-Systemic Therapy Team, and allied professionals to enable proactive, tailored support for families at their point of need.

We are looking to recruit adaptable, highly motivated, skilled individuals with a range of professional expertise to be part of our MST Team. Whether your background is in Health, Education or Social Care, you will have a relevant professional qualification and significant experience of working with families facing complex challenges. We will provide you with ongoing training and support through MST UK to enable you to deliver the programme.

We know that families' needs do not fit into a neat 9-5 bubble, so this post will include working flexibly across some evenings and weekends, including being part of a 24/7 cover rota. In return you will be part of a supportive, multi-agency team, working flexible hours to bring about meaningful change for families whilst benefitting from both peer and clinical consultation.

Main duties of the job

Multi-Systemic therapy (MST) is an intensive family and community based intervention for children and young people aged 11-17, where young people are at risk of entering care due to their offending or having severe behaviour problems. The aim of MST is to break the cycle of anti-social behaviours by keeping young people safely at home, in school, and out of trouble.

As an MST Therapist you will bring your professional discipline/experience to the team; you will hold a small caseload of complex cases working intensively and flexibly with families. You will deliver the most appropriate MST intervention (e.g. behavioural therapy, CBT, family therapy) utilising the MST model and analytical process.

You will have a particular affinity for working with young people aged 11-17, a belief that most families can be supported to stick together and that all young people have the right to a great future.

Working for our organisation

Based in Eastbourne, and sitting within the wider Connected Families Service, the MST Team will offer a countywide service. It is essential that you are able to meet both the travel and remote working requirements of this role.

You will work intensively with families in their homes and communities to enhance relationships, reduce the risk of entering care, target anti-social behaviour and increase engagement with education and positive activities.

You will receive regular group supervision and individual clinical/line management support from the MST Supervisor to develop you as a professional and share learning and best practice. MST-UK provides external orientation training and ongoing regular booster training.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide flexible, full-time, community-based interventions with young people aged 11-17, their families, and wider professional networks.

To participate in an information and adviceon-call rota to enable families to access 24/7 support.

To use of professional judgement, MST methods and interventions to enable young people to remain within their families wherever possible, and to support the best possible outcomes for them.

To adhere to the MST approach and work within the expectations of both your relevant profession and the employing authority.

To utilise theory and evidence-based practice in delivery of the MST approach.

Demonstrate strong core clinical skills and therapeutic approaches.

Support the development and promotion of MST through collaborative liaison with local agencies.

To engage with, and make effective use of supervision, putting learning into practice and contributing to the appraisal processes.

To engage in regular training and development in line with MST model and the employing authority.

Develop collaborative relationships and display strong joint working practices with fellow team members.

Commit to and participate in team meetings, peer supervision and training.

To contribute to the performance monitoring and reporting requirements of the MST programme.

To maintain accurate, up to date case records and work within confidentiality and information sharing protocols.

To work positively, restoratively, proactively and professionally with a range of stakeholders and professional partners.

To develop knowledge and expertise in a range of MST interventions; sharing across the team, wider service and locality.

To work in a way that takes into account issues relating to age, sexuality, health, race, religion, culture, and life experience.

To support with research and evaluation documentation as required.

To undertake other duties within the scope of the post as directed by the MST Supervisor/Programme Manager.
