Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Painter and Maintenance Operative to start as soon as possible.

The purpose of this post is to ensure the smooth and efficient provision of painting services to all schools and properties within Brighton College.

Duties include:

  • Applying paint, stain, varnish and other finishes to a high standard with minimal supervision.
  • Using brushes, rollers or spraying equipment.
  • Working with the team to calculate the materials needed for a project.
  • Removing old paint or wallpaper by sanding or scraping, or by using heat guns, liquid paint removers or steam strippers.
  • Cleaning up supplies and replacing fixtures when project is complete.
  • Any other reasonable management request.

Essential criteria:    

  • Painting & Decorating Level 2 NVQ.
  • 3+ years of experience painting and decorating.
  • The ability to deliver on deadlines.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills required for checking and updating work orders, placing orders and online training.
  • To be flexible and have a positive attitude to work within a team framework.
  • The ability to interact with all types of people with courtesy and tact.
  • The ability to work competently alone or as part of the team.
  • Required to be on the out of hours maintenance rota. 

Desirable criteria:

  • Plastering experience would be beneficial but not essential.
  • General maintenance experience preferred.
  • Ability to erect working platforms and towers.

Hours of work:
This role will work 40 hours per week, from 8.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday inclusive with a 60-minute unpaid lunch break each day.

Holidays:
20 days paid annual leave (plus bank holidays) to be taken in line with the requirements of the College.

  • This role will involve daily contact with pupils and you will be engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
