Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Maintenance Operative, to start as soon as possible.

Duties and responsibilities: 
To undertake general maintenance works as directed by the Estates Manager and Maintenance Foreman. This will include:

  • Installation of shelving.
  • Repairing damages e.g. furniture/walls etc.
  • Picture hanging.
  • Painting.
  • Glass cutting.
  • Window repairs.
  • Basic plumbing.
  • Plastering.
  • Pointing.
  • Assisting others in the department.
  • General all-round duties.
  • Occasionally you will be required to enter residential college properties for repairs. Consideration and discretion is expected at all times.
  • Occasionally assisting the Porterage department with setting up/setting down of exams or functions (e.g. helping to lay temporary flooring, laying out exam desks/chairs and installing a side stage etc.
  • Any other reasonable management request.  

What we are looking for:

  • The ability to work competently alone, or as part of the team.
  • The ability to interact with all types of people with courtesy and tact.
  • To be flexible and have a positive attitude to work within a team framework.

Hours of work:

  • 08.00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday (with a one -hour unpaid lunch break).
  • In addition, there will be a requirement to work Saturday Open Mornings (on a rota) and to work the last weekend of the summer holidays (both of which will be paid as overtime).
  • Overtime may be available on other occasions from time to time. 

Holidays:

  • 20 days, in addition to bank holidays. 

Safeguarding responsibilities:

  • This role will involve daily contact with pupils and you will be engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
  • All staff and volunteers have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
