About the role:

Reporting into the Hardware management team, you will join a small team of electrical and mechanical engineers responsible for the development, evolution and support of our exciting range of Aircraft Simulators and other pilot training devices.

The role requires a proactive, designer with electrical and or mechanical engineering design experience – We are looking for someone who has a range of mechanical and electrical / computing knowledge who is motivated by the challenges of developing designs within tight timescales and budgets.

Our products involve a large range of technologies in a range of products, including electronics, power systems, electromechanical assemblies and computer systems.

The successful applicant will need to work effectively primarily with internal stakeholders, but also at times external stakeholders.

You will be expected to communicate effectively in a clear, open manner, allowing the business to make informed decisions. Work well within a team and work on your own initiative.

Day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Produce detail CAD drawings (Mechanical & Electrical) from requirements / specifications
  • Interpret specifications/requirements from both internal and external stakeholders
  • customer lead) you will develop both novel solutions and modify existing designs without supervision
  • Create BoM’s (Bill of Material) using the company MRP systems to access information (e.g. SAP, Oracle)
  • Proactively suggest potential improvements to departmental and wider processes to help drive improvement and efficiency
  • Demonstrate a willingness to take a hands on approach to supporting other departments such as manufacturing, test and commissioning as required
  • Open to learn other Hardware Engineering Tools to support engineers both mechanical and electrical along with Configuration management.
  • Seek to expand knowledge and experience beyond immediate discipline as opportunities arise.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong Engineering problem solving skills and the ability to communicate these ideas into designs.
  • Some experience of (CAD) Computer Aided Design Tools
  • Some experience and awareness of design for manufacture and a basic understanding of various manufacturing process.
  • Enthusiasm to perform to the best of their ability in everything they do and achieve the best result for the company by working in a flexible manner ensure high quality
  • Strong organisational skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to work to tight deadlines, managing multiple activities at once.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work towards a common goal as part of a multi-functional team.
  • An ability to interface well at all levels within the business.
  • Self-motivation with the ability to be innovative and think laterally to resolve issues, challenge working methods, champion change and help develop the function to achieve maximum effectiveness.
  • The ability to work proactively and employ initiative to propose new ideas.
  • The ability to excel in fast paced deadline oriented environment with high pressure situations, putting in the necessary work to complete the job

Preferred Additional Skills and knowledge:

  • Competent in:Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Strong communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • Preferably advanced Excel skills
  • Preferably Knowledge of Aircraft systems
  • Preferably an engineering background in mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Experience gained from an engineering business such Automotive, Aerospace, Simulation, Medical, Wind Energy or other industry that relevant skills can be transferred.
