Job Details
Job summary Is a role where you can support our nurses to offer an extended crisis assessment in a comfortable safe and calm environment appealing to you? A support worker will offer positive engagement and a therapeutic intervention to those attending to enable them to focus on recovery and identify a means of support when they leave our service. If so, our Support Worker vacancy based in our new 'Haven' at Langley Green Hospital could be just the role for you!
Previously those presenting in mental health crisis overnight have been able to access specialist mental health care at UCC in Crawley. What we know is that a busy urgent treatment centre is not always the best environment for someone in mental health crisis and now we have an alternative, The Haven.
The Haven is a 24/7 unit that can provide an assessment for service users who are crisis as well that require a therapeutic intervention with a clear care plan for next steps. The Haven also accepts people waiting for an admission to hospital that have been transferred from a busy A&E to a more therapeutic environment to prepare them for their admission. Main duties of the job As a support worker your main task will be to create a warm and welcome environment to ensure the attendees feel safe and welcome. From there, you will be expected to assist the nursing staff by offering a supportive and listening intervention that reduces distress and helps to identify coping strategies that will equip them to manage a future crisis. Attendees will leave with a discharge plan that promotes independence while focusing on safety. As a support worker in our team you will participate in our extensive supervision programme, offering you ample opportunity for reflective practice and professional development. About us The Haven is at the forefront of our ambition to provide patient-centred care, providing people with a calm, safe and nurturing space for them to receive treatment and recover from mental health crisis. We provide mental health and learning disability care for children, young people and adults across Sussex and for children and young people in Hampshire.
Working in Sussex:
- Travel easily between coast and countryside, with a blend of picturesque villages and seaside towns
- Embrace the city life with great access to visit Brighton and London
- With easy access to Gatwick and Heathrow and excellent railway links across the UK there is plenty of opportunity for adventure
