Job summary

We would like an experienced, enthusiastic and committed physiotherapist to join the Community Respiratory Team (CRS) in Brighton, as 'Lead Respiratory Physiotherapist'. Applicants should have a specialist interest and significant experience in respiratory care and clinical leadership.

For the right candidate, this vacancy can be full or part-time.

The CRS is a multidisciplinary team that supports patients in the community. As part of an Integrated Respiratory Service we bridge boundaries across healthcare providers, and with the patient at the centre of our interventions. We work with the diagnoses of COPD, ILD, bronchiectasis and asthma. The CRS objective is to improve self-management and prevent unnecessary hospital admissions.

As well as home visits and triaging in rapid response, you will lead on, and provide, specialist respiratory physiotherapy interventions. You will lead on Pulmonary Rehabilitation and actively contribute to the accreditation journey. You will supervise junior colleagues, play an active part in the ongoing improvement of CRS, and have the ability to respond flexibly to challenge.

Applicants must be HCPC registered and able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of working with respiratory patients. Additional to this you will have a broad range of experience working within the NHS. Good time management and organisational skills are essential requirements of this post.

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with clinical lead and operational lead, you will support and develop the community respiratory service, with a focus on an integrated care delivery system. You will manage an efficient and effective physiotherapy service, as an integral part of the respiratory service.

You will have excellent clinical reasoning skills, employed in a variety of care settings. These will be used to provide highly specialist advice and support to patients, to improve self-management of their condition.

You will ensure use of an evidence based approach in selection of appropriate treatment options, such as advice, exercise prescription, respiratory retraining techniques, airway clearance, breathlessness management and provision of appropriate therapeutic adjuncts, aids and equipment.

You will lead on the implementation, audit and accreditation of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation programme. This will be in line with current research and guidelines and you will have a flexible approach in response to current challenges.

It is essential that applicants hold a full UK driving licence and have a car available for work.
