Job Details

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll help us to engage our schools and community in our art trail by hosting a series of Shaun by the Sea model making workshops, known as ‘Make and Takes’. Our ‘Make and Takes’ are short activity sessions designed to encourage all ages (5+) to come together, get creative, and most importantly have fun. At the end of each session, participants will be able to take home their very own hand made Shaun the Sheep.

The activity sessions will last between 1-2 hours, and you will be:

  • Demonstrating how to make a Shaun by the Sea clay model in front of a group of participants
  • Explaining each part of the process, step by step in a clear, confident manner
  • Supporting the participants with model making after the initial demonstration is over

Where:  Our Make and Take sessions will take place in schools and community spaces across the Brighton, Hove and coastal East Sussex.

When: August – November 2023. Sessions will take place during the week and at weekends. The training will take place in July 2023 (date to be confirmed).

Expected commitment:

We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to give around 4 or 5 hours a week during August – November. This will be around 1 - 2 Make and Take sessions a week.

What’s in it for ewe:

This is your chance to support your local community to create connections, have fun and learn more about the vital services that Martlets provides to local people. You’ll also get to take part in an Aardman model making workshop delivered by one of their incredibly talented animators. This will teach you how to make Shaun by the Sea clay models and how you can lead this as an activity workshop for others.

Your skills and abilities:

Are you cool, calm and creative? We are looking for volunteers who:

  • Feel comfortable speaking in front of a group people
  • Are happy to lead an activity and demonstrate model making
  • Can follow a structured activity format
  • Enjoy making models, crafts, or other hands-on activities
  • Are friendly and willing to offer help and support to others

Expectations:

In addition to full training you’ll get a snazzy uniform (t-shirt, fleece) and full support in your volunteering role. As the role will be working out in the community and in schools two references and a DBS check are required.

In return we expect punctuality, positivity, politeness and passion. Plus, good communication skills and a regular commitment to the role.

Company

Martlets is a charity that cares for people living through a terminal illness in and around Brighton and Hove.
We're much more than a hospice. Most of our patients are cared for in their own home.

Our team supports people to live their lives to the full, taking the time to give exceptional care. We're also here for their family and friends- bringing comfort, compassion and support when it matters most.

Thanks to the generosity of local people, our care is free for everyone who needs it. Although we're not part of the NHS, we work in close partnership with them.
