Job summary

This is a specialist role which offers you a unique opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge within safeguarding and multiagency working. As a Specialist Children's Safeguarding Nurse you will support professionals working within the trust to improve their own safeguarding knowledge and skills through training; supervision, support and guidance. You will work within a friendly, dynamic team alongside other Specialist Nurse/s and supported by Named Nurse.

To be able to undertake this role you will need to be an experienced Nurse with significant safeguarding knowledge and experience which you can draw upon when supporting others. We are often supporting professionals who are working with vulnerable families whose lives are chaotic and complicated, this requires excellent communication skills to ensure that the child remains the focus of any safeguarding discussion.

Our team are based across Sussex. This post is for a Specialist Nurse safeguarding children within Brighton and Hove; however expectations is to provide cover across the wider safeguarding team including a potential subject matter expert as expertise and interests develop whilst in role. There is opportunity of hybrid office/home working. The base will be at Brighton General Hospital.

Main duties of the job

As a Specialist Children's Safeguarding Nurse within Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust you will:
  • Plan, write and deliver level 3 safeguarding children training across the Trust to a range of professionals; including bespoke packages to specific teams and services and include opportunity to provide multi-agency training for the BHSCP ( Brighton and Hove Safeguarding Children Partnership).
  • You will attend multiagency meetings including providing cover for multi agency risk assessment conferences (MARAC) sharing health information which is relevant and proportionate to the meeting and ensuring the voice of the child/ren are heard and considered in risk assessment from a child health perspective. This will require excellent research and analysis of health information/records.
  • Provide specialist advice and support to SCFT practitioners, including case discussions and development of clear and robust action plans to ensure children are safeguarded.
  • Provide safeguarding supervision to staff within the Trust who work with children and young people; this will include SCFT staff within Chailey Clinical Services.
