Financial Reporting Accountant

We are recruiting for a Financial Reporting Accountant to join our finance team as part of our civil aviation division and at our Flight Training Centre in Gatwick. The position is full-time, permanent and provides flexibility to work from home for maximum three days a week.

 

You will need to bring previous experience and detailed knowledge of one or more European country’s financial reporting standards (Spain and/or Italy highly desirable), corporation tax and VAT rules and regulations, and tax planning to this position. We are looking for a confident communicator who enjoys working in a fast-paced corporate business environment with the ability to meet strict deadlines.

 

Your key responsibilities

  • Required to plan all statutory requirements to ensure that all reports are completed within the stipulated deadline by liaising with external firms and the finance team.
  • Required to prepare and deliver all Annual Returns, corporation tax returns, VAT returns and any other country-specific requirement within the stipulated deadline.
  • Liaise with professional services firms (like PwC) to ensure all local statutory requirements for each country within the sub-region are fully defined, understood and documented; and all requirements are met in a timely manner.
  • Work with the FP&A (Finance Business Partners) team to ensure that corporate policies and procedures are implemented across the sub-region.
  • Prepare the monthly tax-related journal(s) by liaising with the corporate tax department as necessary for all the countries within the sub-region.
  • Assist with the Month-end pack (MEP) for each country within the sub-region.
  • Complete periodic internal compliance check lists and take any appropriate actions necessary.
  • Provide company secretarial requirements for all legal entities within the sub-region as required (eg board minutes, annual returns etc).
  • Responsible for ensuring that all government submissions, i.e., business statistics are submitted accurately and on time.
  • Ensure that the region is compliant with the terms of its various loan agreements and related matters (eg withholding tax, transfer pricing etc).
  • Liaise with the CAE Treasury department and the wider finance team to ensure we identify and implement any initiatives that benefit the business. This will include cash repatriation/capitalization/dividends.
  • Be the focal point of contact with Banks within the sub-region to administer all user-related matters including opening and/or closing of bank accounts, adding and/or removing authorized signatories, etc.
  • Work with the CAE Corporate Tax department and the regional finance teams, to ensure that the region’s overall corporation tax, VAT and other taxes (eg withholding taxes) situation is optimized.
  • Work with the CAE Corporate Tax department and lead the sub-region on various tax (corporation, VAT, withholding etc) planning initiatives and compliance requirements.
  • Support business related projects with specialist requirements (eg VAT registration, de-registration, taxation, legal entity information/creation etc).

 

Skills and experiences that we are looking for

  • You are a qualified accountant, ideally with a focus on external reporting (ACA, ACCA or local equivalent), or qualified by experience.
  • You have previous experience of independent responsibility for the preparation, completion and submission of statutory accounts, corporation tax/VAT of reasonably complex organizations and working with the relevant external stakeholders (auditors, tax authorities)
  • You understand complex accounting and financial issues and you can provide recommendations on accounting treatment to corporate and local management
  • You have detailed knowledge of one or more European country’s financial reporting standards, corporation tax and VAT rules and regulations, and tax planning, preferably Spain and/or Italy.
  • Knowledge of creating legal entities and other business combination options (branches, joint ventures etc)
  • You ideally have company secretarial experience
  • Computer skills - advanced knowledge in the use of financial software applications (ERP), databases, spreadsheets, word processing and presentations
