Disability Cricket Manager

We have an exciting opportunity for a proactive, resilient and collaborative individual to join the Sussex Cricket Foundation (SCF) and the Sussex Cricket Foundation leadership team. This person should be passionate about providing inclusive sporting opportunities to continue the growth of disability cricket across Sussex.

The successful candidate will be responsible for line managing our dedicated team of disability coaches and the delivery of our programmes across the county, in line with our England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) action plan. They will also oversee our disability performance pathway which comprises three County squads (Super 9s, D40 and visually impaired) backed by long-term sponsors Webtrends Optimize.

SCF is recognised nationally as a leading organisation for delivering Disability Cricket. It is an exciting time to join SCF with the recent launches of two five-year Urban Cricket Plans in Brighton and Hove and Greater Crawley and the Sussex Women’s Premier Cricket League, as well as being home of the world’s largest adult cricket league.

Contract: Permanent, full-time with the requirement to work some evenings and weekends. Flexibility with regards to hybrid working

Remuneration:  Competitive salary plus 25 days’ annual leave

 

Role Purpose

To develop and lead delivery of the strategic plan for disability cricket across Sussex.

Key Responsibilities

  •  Development and management of the strategic plan for disability cricket across Sussex.
  •  Oversee the delivery of the key strategic programmes that make up the ECB’s disability cricket pathway:Disability cricket participation in Sussex.
  • Line management/development of the disability coaching team
  • Ensure effective communications, planning and integrated delivery across the disability team
  • Capturing data and reporting on monitoring and evaluation KPIs for key partners
  • Main point of contact for a broad range of external stakeholders (including the ECB, Lord’s Taverners, Active Sussex, schools, colleges, cricket clubs, disability charities, sponsors, other disability organisations and participant parents/carers)
  • Managing relationships with internal stakeholders (including the leadership team, other Sussex Cricket departments, SCF trustees)
  •  Work closely with the Sussex Cricket commercial team to promote disability cricket activity and develop and maintain sponsorship relationships
  • Form part of the Community Cricket department leadership team
  • Be prepared to undertake any other reasonable and related duties as required

 

Experience and Qualifications

  • An understanding and appreciation of working within a disability sport environment (desirable but not essential)
  • Experience coaching sport to a wide range of audiences (desirable but not essential)
  • Experience of engaging partners and a track record of influencing delivery
  • Leadership, negotiating and influencing skills
  • Experience of line management and developing staff
  • Experience of driving a culture of continuous improvement
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent relationship management skills at an individual and organisation level
  • Experience of managing budgets
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Ability to travel independently between sites
  • Ability to respond to tight deadlines.
  • Inclusive style of working

  • Good Computer literacy, including MS Office

  • Some flexibility around working hours will be required including evenings and weekends.

 

Core Hours – Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.  This role may require out-of- hours work: evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, as necessary. 

General

  • To carry out tasks in a timely, accurate and high-quality manner.
  • Maintain close working relationships with all Sussex Cricket staff and uphold the Organisation’s shared values.
  • Attend events, presentations and meetings which may involve some out-of-hours work, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays. i.e., Match day activations and SCF events.
  • Any other reasonable additional and related duties as requested by line manager.

 

Qualifications and skills

  •  Valid DBS Certificate
  • Valid First Aid certificate
  • Valid Safeguarding certificate
  • Full and valid UK driving licence, to include. Insurance must cover ‘business’ use.

Sussex CCC was the first First-Class County formed in 1839

In November 2015, an historic merger took place between Sussex County Cricket Club and the Sussex Cricket Board, to form Sussex Cricket Limited (SCL). SCL is responsible for the governance and development of the whole game in the county, from recreational to professional level.

Sussex County Cricket Club is the oldest professional sports club in the world and one of the eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. Its limited overs team is called the Sussex Sharks. The club has always held first-class status. Sussex have competed in the County Championship since the official start of the competition in 1890 and have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England.

The Club won its first County Championship in 2003, which was the beginning of an era in which Sussex enjoyed prolonged success, named 'The Golden Decade'.

Sussex Cricket also incorporates the Sussex Cricket Foundation (SCF). Through the activities, it provides the SCF aim to make cricket accessible to all.
