Engineering Operations Manager

The Opportunity:

Are you our next Engineering Operations Manager. We are looking for someone who can help us redefine what's possible for our Engineering team.

What's the role?

Forming a key part of the airport's operational duty management team, the EOM is responsible for leading the engineering shift, and the management and provision of engineering services and essential utilities at Gatwick. They are responsible for coordination of the permit to work system and ensuring hazardous activities are carried out safely.

What you'll be doing?
  • Control engineer for the GAL/UKPNS (up to 33kV) electrical distribution network for Gatwick.
  • Operational responsibility for all permits and work requests while on shift (including electrical, confined spaces, hot works, etc.) inline with policy and regulation.
  • Maintains the availability of Engineering services and main utilities and coordinate engineering technicians while on shift to ensure an effective engineering solution is provided to support a stable operation.
  • Works with the emergency services to provide engineering expert advice during periods of need.
  • Manages and authorises safe systems of work and contractor management systems.
  • Shares knowledge and coaches other team members in order to support improvements in team performance.
  • Operates engineering systems including fire alarms, BMS, HVAC and pump station faults, prevents pollution, etc.
  • Produces effective communication to stakeholders including duty reports for each period of duty to maintain consistency and clarity of the operational picture.
  • Coordinates the fault line operation to ensure effective response by engineering teams to faults raised.

Do you have what we're looking for?
  • Applicants must be experienced Engineers with a formal qualification in either electrical, electronic or mechanical discipline and be able to reach a standard of Control Engineer for the airports HV electrical distribution system within an agreed timescale from appointment of the post.
  • Specific experience of health and safety related standards and regulations typically involving the security of airport facilities.
  • Strong proven dynamic and inspiring leadership skills in a fast-paced operational environment
  • Experienced in delivering change in difficult environments.
  • Good working knowledge of Safe Systems of Work and regulatory and statutory compliance (e.g., electrical, confined spaces, hot works, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of engineering relating to the operation of an airport environment
  • Strong understanding of budgets and financial frameworks
  • Strong understanding and proven experience in a relevant engineering discipline
