We are a truly unique outdoor adventure company, offering a diverse range of activities and expert training alongside specialist Film & TV Safety services. From our Brighton Marina training centre and equipment shop, we deliver safe, tailored adventures and professional services - led by passionate, highly qualified instructors dedicated to creating unforgettable outdoor experiences.

Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic Centre Manager to join the team at Hatt Adventures, based from our Training Centre and Shop in Brighton Marina.

This is a great opportunity to take on the management of a our busy and exciting outdoor adventure company. We are committed to running high quality adventures, skills courses and trips. We are an environmentally aware company, committed to minimising our impact on the environment in all aspects of our business.

The right individual will bring extensive experience in outdoor leadership and management, along with a strong dedication to creating and delivering high-quality programmes, training, and services. We're looking for someone with an entrepreneurial and creative approach, a curious mind eager to develop innovative outdoor solutions, and the drive to collaborate with the sales team to bring those ideas to market.

The role includes both administrative and instructional elements along with recruiting, training and developing new staff, and designing new activities and adventures. You will be expected to work on your own and manage a team of experienced freelance and in-house instructors.

We operate across 3 main sectors:

  • Public Courses (skills, trips and experiences).
  • Charity Events (Abseils, walks, challenges).
  • Film & TV Safety (technical safety at height or on the water).

We also have plans to expand our provision of activities, locations (overseas) and clientele.

Locations

You will be responsible for managing the training at our 2 sites, with your primary location of Brighton Marina):

  • Brighton Marina (Training Centre and Shop).
Required Skills

You should be a well-qualified outdoor instructor with a strong background in managing staff, delivering outdoor courses and events and have excellent communication and computer skills.

Practical SkillS
  • Mountain Training - Rock Climbing Instructor.
  • British Canoeing - L2 Kayak / Paddlesport Leader.
  • Up to date logbooks demonstrating experience and currency of qualifications and best practice.
  • Previous Operations Manager or Senior Management Experience.
  • Excellent leadership and people skills.
Administrative Skills
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Good office administration skills.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled in computers (ideally Macs) / internet / emails / word / excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, dealing with customers / corporate clients / booking agents.
  • Support the Director with business strategic planning.
Additional Roles
  • Managing budgets / account processes.
  • Coordinating staff rotas.
  • Writing staff newsletters.
  • Interviewing and hiring additional staff.
  • Staff training, reviews, appraisals.
Distinct Advantage
  • RYA - Powerboat Instructor or Commercially Endorsed License.
  • Course Provider for Mountain Training or Paddle UK
  • PCV (D1) Driving license.
  • Rope Access Qualification.
  • Other high level outdoor awards

As well as staff discounts on equipment, you will be able to attend all of our courses free of charge or at cost price. We will also help with any third-party job specific training where relevant to your job role.

Holiday

28 days per year.

Pay

£35-40,000 per annum depending on previous experience and qualifications, with uncapped potential as the company grows.

Hours

40hrs (normally 9-6pm) with 1hr for lunch over 5 days per week (including weekends) . You will also act as 'duty manager' on days off.
