What You’ll Do at Elekta 

We are looking for detail-oriented Data Engineer to join our team for an initial 6-month period as Maternity cover.

This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, hardware and software engineers, to support our data-driven decision-making processes.

The Data Engineer must possess a strong technical aptitude and be hands-on when delivering solutions, working comfortably across the full delivery lifecycle. You should have practical experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing data architectures, with a working knowledge of AI and Machine Learning techniques. The ideal candidate will have a consultative mindset and the ability to engage with users and stakeholders at all levels of the organization to collect and analyse requirements, ensuring optimal solution design, data pipeline delivery, and infrastructure scalability.

We offer a fixed-term maternity cover (6 months), with a possibility to extend.

Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to): 

  • Act as part of the Predictive Maintenance & Intelligence team, providing data infrastructure and engineering support whilst following existing structures in ways of working.
  • Develop and implement data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality.
  • Design, build and maintain data pipelines to support machine learning and predictive models that identify avoidable failures.
  • Collaborate with Predictive Maintenance & Intelligence team as well as other data-oriented teams at Elekta to deploy models, analytics workloads onto the Azure Analytics platform as well as providing data engineering expertise.
  • Architect and implement scalable data pipelines for data ingestion, processing, and transformation using Azure Data Factory, Databricks and other Azure services.
  • Manage and optimize SQL Server databases to ensure high performance, reliability and security.
  • Implement and optimize big data processing frameworks using Spark.
  • Handle large-scale data processing and real-time data streaming.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment and testing of data solutions.
  • Ensure continuous integration and delivery practices are followed.
  • Monitor, manage and maintain the analytics workloads to ensure efficiency and scalability.
  • Support the development and maintenance of Business Intelligence (BI) applications, including data extraction and transformation.
  • Aid in database development and optimization using Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, and SSIS for high-performance data systems.
  • Engage in business analysis by working directly with stakeholders at all levels to understand data requirements for developing BI solutions and applications.
  • Integrate the company’s data with third-party data sources to enrich data models and support analytics needs.
  • Enhance data collection procedures to ensure data completeness and data pipeline integrity for downstream analytic systems.
  • Ensure the reliability, integrity and accuracy of data used for analysis through data validation and cleansing procedures.
  • Provide support for ad-hoc analyses, ensuring that the infrastructure supports quick and efficient data exploration.
  • Participate in concept exploration projects related to advanced development and services, offering data engineering support for prototyping and feasibility studies.
  • Support the integration of AI and machine learning algorithms by ensuring that data infrastructure is compatible with the needs of development teams.
  • Co-design and co-implement domain concepts and algorithms into reusable, scalable software modules for future-proofing solutions.
  • Prototype data infrastructure for new algorithm applications and investigate their feasibility.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in data engineering, tracking new ideas, tools and methods in the field of data science, machine learning and deep learning.

What you bring:

  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer.
  • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining, and segmentation techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Business Objects etc.), databases (SQL etc.), programming (XML, Javascript, or ETL frameworks).
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS etc.).
  • Strong experience with machine learning workflows and working knowledge of Azure Data Services (e.g., Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, etc.).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Adept at queries, report writing, and presenting findings.
  • BS in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, or Statistics.

Desirable :

  • Experience with complex enterprise architecture.
  • Experience of Business Intelligence tools and development (QlikSense)
  • Experience with PTC ThingWorx (IoT Platform)
  • ITIL Foundation Certification or higher
