Maintenance Officer - Ofsted Registered Children's Residential Home
Job Title: Maintenance Officer
Location: Eastbourne / East Sussex
About The Role:
This is a hands on, high accountability role responsible for maintaining safe, compliant and homely environments across our children's homes.
You will take ownership of day to day maintenance, repairs, and compliance related tasks, ensuring all properties meet the standards expected by Ofsted and internal quality frameworks. Where standards fall below expectation, you act immediately.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring our homes are not only compliant, but environments where children and young people feel safe, secure and cared for.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Maintenance Officer, you will:
- Carry out day to day maintenance and repairs across multiple residential homes
- Complete works across general trades including basic plumbing, carpentry, painting and decorating
- Conduct routine property inspections to identify and resolve maintenance issues proactively
- Respond to urgent maintenance issues and emergencies in a timely and effective manner
- Ensure all homes meet health and safety and compliance standards at all times
- Support with property readiness for new home openings, refurbishments and improvements
- Maintain accurate records of completed works, outstanding tasks and compliance actions
- Liaise with external contractors where specialist works are required and oversee quality of delivery
- Support with fire safety checks, risk assessments and general compliance requirements
- Ensure tools, equipment and materials are used safely and maintained appropriately
- Identify risks or concerns and escalate where regulatory, safeguarding or safety thresholds require it

About You:
We are looking for a proactive and reliable maintenance professional, you should have
- Proven experience in a maintenance, facilities or repair role
- Practical skills across multiple trades (e.g. plumbing, carpentry, decorating)
- Strong understanding of health and safety within a property or facilities setting
- Ability to work independently and manage your own workload effectively
- Good problem solving skills and a solution focused approach
- Strong attention to detail and pride in delivering high standards
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively to urgent or reactive issues
- Full UK driving licence
- Experience working within residential or care environments (desirable)
- Knowledge of compliance requirements within children's homes (desirable)
Working Pattern:
Full time role with flexibility required:
- 09:00am - 17:00pm or 08:30am - 16:30pm
- Flexibility required to deliver evening or occasional weekend hours in line with operational needs
- Travel required across Eastbourne and London homes
