What is the role?

The Planning Manager will focus on consenting and policy planning matters, protecting Gatwick's strategic aims and objectives. The post will cover all aspects of town planning from leading on the discharge of planning requirements relating to the Northern Runway Project Development Consent Order (DCO) and general development management and control activities (both on and off airport), through to land use planning policy representations, s106 monitoring and compliance, and responding to national planning consultations. The post will cover all work with key stakeholders – both providing advice within the business and externally, in particular with the local authorities.

This role takes an office first hybrid approach here at London Gatwick, with three days a week in the office, two days remote, managed around the needs of the business.

What will you do?

  • Advise, co-ordinate and support the preparation of information to discharge DCO planning requirements
  • Act as the link between the airport and the local authorities and other statutory consultees (as required) to ensure planning approvals are delivered in a timely manner and respond to any 3rd party planning applications.
  • Lead on the project management and monitoring of the Gatwick Planning Performance Agreement. Monitor and report on compliance to the business on expenditure and achievement of key outputs/milestones.
  • Provide expert planning and development management advice to internal Gatwick teams on development control processes and requirements including the construction, development and property teams
  • Monitor local and national planning policy and respond to consultations through detailed representations
  • Assisting the Chief Planning Officer and the Planning and Environment Lead as necessary in undertaking their duties to support the objectives and work of the Airport

Do you have what we're looking for?

  • Charted Town Planner (member of RTPI or RICS) is essential
  • Proven significant experience in either Planning Policy or Development Management is essential. Experience of both is highly desirable
  • Proven experience providing advice, co-ordination and support the preparation of information to discharge planning requirements
  • Expert communicator with experience of stakeholder engagement and third parties such as Local Authorities, Government Bodies and Statutory Consultees
  • Demonstrable experience consulting on and leading through land use planning policy, s106 monitoring and compliance, and responding to national planning consultations.
  • Experience Reviewing, coordinating, and completing submissions to the relevant local authority.
  • Experience reporting on compliance to the business and to committees with progress updates and recommendations .
  • Experience liaising with Local Authorities on Planning Performance Agreements
  • Strong skills of preparing and presenting evidence at local plan examinations
