Job Purpose

To work within the Volution Ventilation Group Technical Team as a Product Reliability and Approvals Manager/Leader, reporting to the UK Engineering Delivery Director, to identify, manage and complete test programs for product reliability, safety and other regulatory requirements for all new product developments and in-market product changes.

Prepare and continuously support the product Technical Files to ensure compliance and traceability to enable the Technical Director to sign off the Declaration of Conformity documents.

Support the continuous improvement of the test team through regular training and mentoring.

Main duties

  • To always work in a safe manner without putting themselves, colleagues or members of the public at risk.
  • Resource planning and line management of 4 test engineers and 1 approvals manager.
  • Contribute to the design specification and ongoing project process to identify risks, test requirements and lab resource allocation.
  • Working with the design team to develop methodical test plans for all aspects of product design – from mechanical through to electronics, firmware and mobile apps. Ensuring products are released on time, on budget and fulfil our customer expectations.
  • Support the NPD project teams across the Group from start to finish to meet the business targets, on time and on budget.
  • Identify current and future regulatory requirements for all VVG markets, working with local teams to ensure product compliance, including performance, safety and energy related products directive.
  • Ensure relevant compliance documentation is maintained as part of our ECO, Technical File and DofC process.
  • Support in market product changes by identifying and allocating test requirements and contributing to the DofC sign off process.
  • Work with 3rd parties where necessary such as Intertek and UL for product testing.
  • Estimate and track resource and external test costs for budgetary purposes.
  • Generate monthly product reliability reports and contribute to our continuous improvement objectives.
  • Identifying areas of improvement through methodical FMEA or similar process.
  • Work towards continuously improving our product development process to improve efficiency and prevent delays.
  • Mentor and motivate other design team members, and influence them to take positive action.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel when required.
  • To carry out any other reasonable tasks as requested by the UK Engineering Delivery Director.
  • To travel to our other group business, customers and suppliers around the world as required.
  • To support or carry out activities at other Volution Group Companies as required.

Job holder requirements

  • Minimum 5 years experience working within either of the following:
  • Product design and manufacturing company for domestic and/or commercial appliances.
  • Product compliance environment.
  • Suitable bachelor’s degree or relevant equivalent qualification and/or experience.
  • Familiar working with CE, LVD and EMC directives including safety standards.
  • Application of relevant tools to perform risk analysis and identify test requirements, fault analysis for preventative and corrective actions; for process, part or product improvement.
  • Good MS Office knowledge, in particular excel.
  • Experience in writing and implementing test plans.
  • Working within teams to resolve problems constructively and effectively.
  • Experience in setting up processes and getting the best out of a team in order to deliver business targets.
  • Ability to analyse and review data.
  • Able to travel when necessary – occasionally internationally.
  • Ability to estimate resource requirements and track budgets.
  • A critical thinker and problem solver.
