EduTalent are working with a specialist residential setting in Hailsham that supports children and young people aged 8 18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

This nurturing, therapeutic environment is designed to help young people feel safe, build independence, and achieve positive outcomes through a holistic and person-centred approach. The setting provides tailored support across two residential areas to meet a range of needs, from developing independence skills to supporting young people with more complex requirements.

As a Care Mentor, you will play a key role in providing high-quality care, emotional support, and guidance to help young people thrive both in the residential environment and alongside their education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent, compassionate care and support to young people aged 8 18

  • Promote emotional wellbeing, independence, and positive behaviour

  • Support daily routines including personal care, mealtimes, activities, and bedtime routines

  • Build trusting, professional relationships with young people using a therapeutic approach

  • Work in line with PACE principles (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy)

  • Implement Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies and trauma-informed practices

  • Support communication using tools such as Makaton and PECS where required

  • Work collaboratively with education and in-house therapeutic teams

  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and safeguarding documentation

  • Ensure the home environment remains safe, structured, and nurturing

  • Participate in team meetings, handovers, and training

Requirements

Essential:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH and/or ASD

  • A caring, resilient, and patient approach

  • Ability to work shifts between 7am 11pm on a rota basis

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities

Desirable:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)

  • Knowledge of PACE, PBS, PRICE, or trauma-informed care

  • Experience in residential childcare or specialist education settings

Qualification Pathway:
Candidates without a Level 3 will be enrolled onto the qualification following successful completion of a 6-month probation period with the client.
