Our client is currently recruiting a Site Setting Out Engineer to join their Civil Engineering team working on a major infrastructure project. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting out, surveying and supporting the delivery of construction works on site, ensuring that all activities are carried out in accordance with project specifications, quality standards and company procedures.

The Site Setting Out Engineer will work closely with the Site Manager, Foreman and wider engineering team to monitor construction progress, maintain accurate records and ensure works are delivered safely and efficiently. This role will involve setting out works, monitoring site conditions, managing technical queries and supporting the coordination of materials, plant and site activities.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a civil engineering or infrastructure environment and will be confident using surveying equipment and engineering software to support project delivery.

Site Setting Out Engineer Position Overview

  • Carry out day-to-day setting out and surveying activities on site.
  • Monitor movement, vibration, noise levels and other site conditions where required.
  • Ensure survey equipment is correctly calibrated and reference points are maintained.
  • Check and record construction works prior to cover-up or progression to the next stage.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, surveys and site activities.
  • Review drawing revisions and highlight amendments or variances to the Site Manager.
  • Raise technical queries and highlight potential sequencing or programme conflicts.
  • Assist with measuring quantities and calling off materials when required.
  • Monitor and record material volumes imported, exported, used or wasted.
  • Coordinate material deliveries and assist with site logistics planning.
  • Support the Site Manager with site documentation, returns and quality system records.
  • Monitor the utilisation and requirements for plant and equipment on site.
  • Attend daily and weekly site meetings and contribute to planning discussions.
  • Assist the Site Manager with monitoring quality, performance and safety standards.
  • Promote a strong safety, environmental and quality culture on site.
  • Support the training and development of junior team members and apprentices.

Site Setting Out Engineer Position Requirements

  • Experience working on construction sites in an engineering role, ideally within marine, flood defence, water or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of site surveying and setting out techniques.
  • Experience using surveying equipment including EDM, Total Stations and automatic levels.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and surveying software packages.
  • Experience using Autodesk software such as Civil 3D or similar would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with point cloud data and digital surveying methods is beneficial.
  • Competent using Microsoft Office applications including Project, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong understanding of construction materials and site processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with site teams and communicate effectively with project stakeholders.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • CSCS Card - Manager or Academically Qualified level.
