PMLD Teaching Assistant - Specialist SEND School

Location: Burgess Hill, West Sussex
Pay: 100 per day
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:45am-4:00pm (5:00pm Tuesdays)
Contract: Full-time, term time, 12-week temp-to-perm
Start: ASAP trail days imminent

NextGen Teachers are looking for a Teaching Assistant to join a PMLD class within a specialist SEND school in Burgess Hill.

The class supports non-verbal pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), including wheelchair users and pupils with complex physical and medical needs. There is a high staff-to-pupil ratio, with teachers, TAs and specialist staff working closely together.

The Role

You will:

• Support pupils with PMLD and complex needs
• Work with non-verbal pupils and wheelchair users
• Support learning, communication and sensory activities
• Provide personal and intimate care
• Support PEG/gastrostomy feeding following appropriate training and individual care plans
• Assist with moving and handling where required
• Work closely with teachers, therapists and other support staff

This is a hands-on care and education role, so you must be comfortable supporting pupils with personal care and complex physical needs.

Who We're Looking For

Previous school experience isn't essential and full training will be provided.

Experience within SEND, PMLD, care, healthcare, support work or residential care would be particularly relevant.

We're looking for someone who is caring, patient, reliable and comfortable with the personal-care aspects of the role.
