TIG Welder / Skilled Stainless Steel Fabricator
Location: Newhaven, East Sussex
Salary: £16 £18 per hour (£32,448 £36,504 per year)
Employment: Permanent full time
The Opportunity An established manufacturer of specialist equipment is looking for an experienced Stainless Steel Fabricator / TIG Welder. The role combines precision sheet metal fabrication, TIG welding, fitting and high-grade polishing of bespoke products used in demanding technical environments. You will work from engineering drawings through to finished assemblies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate stainless steel components and complete assemblies from engineering drawings.
  • Measure, mark out, cut, bend, form and assemble precision sheet metal.
  • Carry out high-quality TIG welding, mainly on stainless steel.
  • Grind, dress, finish and polish stainless steel to a high standard.
  • Use workshop equipment including press brakes, guillotines, rollers and grinders.
  • Check dimensions and finish quality, resolve practical issues and maintain a safe workshop.

Skills and Experience Required

  • At least four years of relevant professional TIG welding experience, particularly on stainless steel.
  • Strong stainless steel sheet metal fabrication experience and ability to read drawings.
  • Practical high-grade polishing and finishing experience, not welding alone.
  • Confidence using standard sheet metal and fabrication machinery.
  • Accuracy, good understanding of tolerances and ability to complete work independently.

Desirable Experience

  • Thin-gauge stainless steel, bespoke manufacture, fitting or mechanical assembly.
  • Healthcare, laboratory, pharmaceutical or cleanroom equipment production.
  • A relevant fabrication/welding apprenticeship or recognised qualification.

Why Join This Business?

  • Work on varied, bespoke precision-manufactured products rather than only repetitive welding.
  • See products through fabrication, welding, assembly and high-quality finishing.
  • Join an established manufacturing operation with an in-house engineering team.
  • Access additional training where appropriate to manufacturing needs.
  • Workplace pension and potential overtime, subject to business requirements.
