Balfe’s Bikes Workshop Mechanic Job Description:

Reports to the Workshop Manager

Below is an overview of the role of the Mechanic role within Balfe’s.

Our mechanics are responsible for the high-quality servicing of bikes used to commute, race and leisure. Providing our customers with expert maintenance advice to ensure the best customer care and experience, whilst adhering to the customer’s specific needs. Working one day at the weekend is required.

Responsibilities & Duties will include.

  • Diagnosing/identifying problems for accurate service and repair.
  • To learn pricing structure on labour costs to provide effective on the spot quoting.
  • Ability to form quotes for repair within a customer’s budget.
  • The ability to carry out all types of service provided at Balfe’s, including safety services, General Services and Full services within time allocated calendar bookings.
  • A high level of product knowledge, knowing supplier brands and use of B2B websites.
  • Reporting to workshop manager with any requirements for tooling, stock, and guidance on any repair.
  • Keep presentation of workshop to Balfe’s high standards which includes merchandising and daily cleaning schedules.
  • Knowledge of POS systems, to be able to contact customers to arrange bike collections, via email, SMS or phone.
  • Work in a safe and efficient manner and adhere to all Company policies and procedures relating to Health and Safety.
  • Our mechanics are required to follow company training plans which are provided in house and on behalf of our suppliers.
  • Dealing with boxed bikes on a daily basis, unpacking, storing and adequately dealing with cardboard waste and recycling.
  • To make all customers feel welcome and solve issues in a professional, friendly manner.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Cytech 1 & 2/equivalent qualifications.
  • Brand specific training.
  • 2/3 years+ experience of working as a mechanic within a professional high paced environment.
  • Great Communication Skills, leaving accurate notes on repairs/bookings.
  • Customer Service/Phone Manner.
  • Ability to work within a team and take instruction.
  • The ability to lift and deal with bikes 25kg+
