Building Maintenance Surveyor - Multiple Positions are available

Location: Crawley
Salary: 43000 - 45636 dependant on experience
Hours: 37 hours per week Flexible working Site-based

An established social housing provider is seeking an experienced Building Maintenance Surveyor to oversee responsive repairs, planned maintenance and property inspections across its housing portfolio.

This is an excellent opportunity for a surveying professional who enjoys a varied role, combining technical expertise, contractor management and customer engagement. Working closely with internal teams and external contractors, the successful candidate will help ensure homes are maintained to a high standard, delivering safe, compliant and cost-effective repair solutions.

The Role

The successful candidate will carry out property inspections, diagnose building defects, prepare specifications, estimate repair costs and manage repairs through to completion. They will supervise contractors, certify completed works, monitor quality and ensure all work complies with current legislation and industry standards.

The role also includes supporting void property inspections, responding to disrepair and customer complaints, managing leaseholder enquiries and maintaining accurate asset information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect residential properties and diagnose building defects.
  • Prepare specifications, schedules of work and cost estimates.
  • Manage responsive repairs, planned maintenance and void works.
  • Supervise contractors and monitor quality, performance and compliance.
  • Certify completed works and authorise contractor payments.
  • Maintain accurate asset records and update property databases.
  • Investigate disrepair claims and support complaint resolution.
  • Liaise with residents, leaseholders and colleagues to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, housing legislation and building regulations.

Requirements

Applicants should have experience in building surveying, repairs and maintenance or property services, ideally within social housing, local authority or contractor environments. They will have strong technical knowledge of residential construction, excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects while delivering a high standard of customer service.

A qualification in Building Surveying or a related construction discipline, or equivalent practical experience, would be advantageous.

A full UK driving licence is essential.
