South East Water is looking for an Environmental Performance Officer - Ecologist to join our team. In this pivotal role, you'll be our in-house expert, advising on a wide range of protected species, holding at least two relevant Protected Species Survey Licences, and boasting strong botanical capabilities with a solid understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain. You'll bring your experience working within designated sites and familiarity with construction work to undertake hands-on ecology work, review proposals, and audit ecological services. Main Responsibilities <ul> <li>&nbsp;The individual would be a skilled ecologist who is able to advise on a broad range of protected species and habitats, working out how best South East Water can carry out its functions in an ecologically sensitive way.&nbsp;</li> <li>Responsible for influencing design to minimise ecological impacts, and to plan and carry out appropriate survey and mitigation where required. Responsible to communicating this to Project Teams / Managers. Also providing training and updates across the business.&nbsp;</li> <li>Provide environmental advice on how the project should proceed and likely environmental sensitivities of a project.&nbsp; This will ensure each project is programmed and executed in a well-planned way in line with environmental constraints, so that environmental risk are avoided or appropriate controls in place.&nbsp;</li> <li>Input into design to minimise ecological impacts in the most effective way while also enabling South East Water to carry out its business.&nbsp; Work on detailed reporting, consultation and setting out mitigation on key issues such as protected species and sites.&nbsp;</li> <li>Flexibility, particularly to respond to unplanned works, but also managing work in an organised manner and setting and meeting realistic deadlines.</li> <li>Prepare and coordinate technical reports to a high standard to meet internal, stakeholder and regulatory requirements.&nbsp;</li> <li>Check and review work prepared by others, internal and external.</li> <li>Manage and audit contractors and contract documents to ensure environmental risks are effectively represented and managed. Environmental Performance Officer - Ecologist

Environmental Performance Officer - River Restoration

Locations: Snodland, Kent Farnborough, Hampshire Arlington, East Sussex Summary: This role will act as key support to the Environmental Performance Lead Waste and Operations to ensure environmental risks are managed across operational activities, working to reduce the overall environmental impact of activities, ensuring compliance, promoting good practice and sustainable practices. This role involves working directly with SEW operational teams and Contractors for assessment of reactive works, managing the network and operational use of our sites. SEW sites are across a range of landscapes including protected designated Sites of Scientific Interest, habitats for protected species and Areas of Outstanding Beauty, so will require experience in how to mitigate works in these areas, and engage with specialists, stakeholders and consultants when required for further input. Working with teams and delivering training programmes, building connections with the wider operation teams. The role will also include waste tracking, auditing and action tracking programmes with compliance that will be reported to on a monthly basis. Incident management will be a key part of the role ensuring that an appropriate response is provided to all geographical areas of operation and reporting to regulators where required. Main Responsibilities <ul> <li>Support the Operations and Waste Lead and work closely with the Operational staff to ensure timely assessment of work and documentation.</li> <li>Assessment of reactive and emergency works with environmental advice to minimise environmental impact of work and to reduce the likelihood of environmental prosecutions.&nbsp;</li> <li>Writing policy &amp; strategy documents for operational environmental management. Incorporating controls into key documents.&nbsp;</li> <li>Liaison with environmental regulators obtaining consents and advice where necessary and reporting back to the business.</li> <li>Auditing / site inspections to ensure compliance with regulation &amp; internal standards.
