Teacher of Deaf (0.8)Job Type: Permanent4 days a weekLocation: CrawleyReed Education are supporting a primary school in Crawley who are seeking a committed and passionate Teacher of Deaf to join their support centre. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children who are deaf, supporting them to achieve full inclusion, both academically and socially, within a mainstream school setting.

Teacher of Deaf Responsibilities

  • Deliver tailored teaching and support to pupils, promoting inclusion across the school.
  • Plan, deliver and assess personalised learning programmes, including Deaf Studies and BSL (where appropriate).
  • Monitor pupil progress, including hearing and language development, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Work collaboratively with mainstream teachers to differentiate learning and enhance accessibility.
  • Develop, implement and review learning plans
  • Work in partnership with Speech and Language Therapists, Audiologists and other external professionals.
  • Ensure pupils receive appropriate audiological support to maximise their access to learning.
  • Promote and implement communication strategies in line with relevant policies for hearing impairment.
  • Contribute to staff development through training and raising deaf awareness across the school community.
  • Liaise effectively with parents, carers and external agencies to ensure joined-up support for pupils.

They are looking for someone who has the following:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (or equivalent).
  • Has experience working with, or a strong interest in, supporting children who are deaf.
  • Has (or is willing to work towards) a mandatory qualification in teaching deaf children.
  • Demonstrates strong understanding of inclusive education and SEND provision.
  • Has excellent communication, collaboration and organisational skills.
  • Is confident in working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Has knowledge of BSL (desirable but not essential).
  • Is passionate about improving outcomes and promoting independence for all pupils.

Salary range

  • £40,000 - £50,000
