Manufacturing System Test/Automation Engineer Opportunity @ Varian, Crawley, United Kingdom

We now have an opportunity within our Manufacturing Engineering team @ Varian, Crawley, UK.

Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, this role will be responsible for Manufacturing Engineering support to both Design and Manufacturing departments within Varian, pertaining particularly to System Test.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Prepares test and diagnostic programs, designs test tools, and completes specifications and procedures for new and existing products.

  • Designs, develops, implements, and maintains cost-effective methods of testing and troubleshooting systems and equipment

  • Compiling of processes and procedures for the department including the creation, maintenance, and improvement of production processes and equipment with the use of Lean Principles.

  • Generate and process Engineering Change Notification requests (ECNs) and facilitate their appropriate introduction into production.

  • Utilises good time management skills of for on-time delivery of assignments.

  • Documents work/deliverables according to the company standards and industry regulations.

  • Provides mentoring and guidance to peers, team members, and less experienced team members.

  • Monitor any budget/capital expenditure that may be required for the department, including projects/tooling/testing etc.

  • Work with other departments, customers and suppliers to provide practical technical solutions, quality improvement and cost reduction.

  • Maintain a constant appreciation and understanding of appropriate materials, modern technologies and manufacturing processes relating to the position both internal to Varian and within the Supply Chain.

  • Audit Vendors to establish capacity / capability and processes.

  • Develop creative and innovative design and test solutions, suitable for manufacture, for new and

    existing products, systems, and assemblies.

  • Use experience and knowledge to assist in the production of objective evidence of design robustness.

  • Give input to the checking process for verifying design solutions from other engineers.

  • Creation of feasibility studies for design for test (DFT).

  • Manage workload to achieve project time lines and perform other related duties as directed by the general needs of the department.

    Skills & Experience Required:

    • Relevant technical education and practical experience gained in a small batch Electro Mechanical environment (medical device industry desirable).

    • Ensure that programs are in compliance with standards for good laboratory practices (GLP), good manufacturing practices (GMP) and/or good clinical practices (GCP).

    • A working knowledge of IEC and FDA QSR regulations.

    • Able to interpret engineering requirements and produce appropriate design solutions.

    • Must have experience and competency in process validation as well as mechanical verification

      testing and associated documentation creation.

    • Ability to compare test results with predicted results to verify designs against requirements.

    • Proficient in appropriate CAD tools and techniques. Use of analysis software. Detail drawing

      and assembly production and 3D information exchange.

    • Understanding and appreciation for Lean Principles (Six Sigma qualification desirable).

    • Experience with SAP or similar MRP system desired.

    • Awareness of Health & Safety best practice.

    • Able to work on own initiative, ability to act independently and exercise judgement and

      discretion in making decisions.
