Mechanical Engineer

Elekta Unity, the world’s first high field MR Linac, is being used to treat cancer patients by key hospitals throughout the globe. To ensure Elekta remains the innovation leader in MR Linac technology, we are ready to enter the next phase of this product development by enhancing the  performance and cost-effectiveness of the solution.

 

We are looking to strengthen our hardware engineering group by recruiting creative, enthusiastic individuals to work in multi-disciplinary teams, and closely with our supply chain, to drive our ambitious road maps forward.

Responsibilities -

The responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer are to: 

  • Provide high quality and imaginative technical solutions to project requirements.
  • Contribute to complete and effective engineering plans and schedules, including planning own activities.
  • Schedule own activities to provide engineering deliverables that meet required specifications within timescales and budgets.
  • Contribute in SAFe Agile Planning events and form part of an Agile scrum-team.
  • Ensure own designs meet all relevant safety and regulatory requirements, and are formally verified to meet these and other specifications (performance, cost).
  • Understand and adhere to the quality system, and introduce improvements to its effectiveness.
  • Share knowledge and experience with peer groups in other teams.
  • Plan, maintain and improve personal professional competence as defined by the requirements of the UK Engineering Council (UK Spec).
  • Provide technical leadership to engineering staff (preferred).
  • Support the wider engineering team to ensure engineering deliverables meet required specifications within timescales and budgets.
  • Mentor and support professional development of developing Engineering.

Authorities –

The authorities of the Mechanical Engineer are:

  • Approval of safe and compliant designs and drawings
  • Approval of product structures/ BoMs
  • Approval of Engineering plans
  • Approval of Test Reports
  • May take ownership of local work instructions or procedures.

 

Relevant Knowledge, skills and competencies -

  • Previous experience in machine design and documentation
  • Ability to present your design in a design review environment and take onboard feedback from a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of planning and executing product creation initiatives and managing risk
  • Experience of Stress Analysis and working with a variety of materials
  • Understanding of Value / Cost Engineering
  • Previous PLM experience and navigating product structures
  • Engineering Change experience and knowhow
  • Experience of working with Medical Devices, and applicable standards preferred
  • Team working in scrum teams
  • IMechE accredited degree in relevant engineering discipline. 
  • Chartered Engineer, or working towards CEng status.
  • Proficient with windows operating system and Microsoft office applications.
