Barrier Assembler Supervisor

With around 100 staff based at our headquarters in Crawley, West Sussex, we provide a complete range of services including design, site surveys, manufacture, installation, civil and electrical services, maintenance, spares, repair or refurbishment and full project management, all backed up by a fully comprehensive customer service programme.

Frontier Pitts is looking for a Barrier Assembler Supervisor to be based at our Crawley HQ to work on our barrier division.

You will be responsible for the supervision of the barrier section and the final assembly of the security equipment in accordance with assembly drawings issued by the Drawing Office, this includes but is not limited to the following:

 

Functions of Team:

  • Assemble into a complete product in accordance with job specific specifications and drawings
  • Collate materials required to complete bespoke product manufacture. This may involve unloading deliveries
  • Mechanically build barrier cabinet
  • Wire in operational components to electrical panel by following technical drawing
  • Electrical panel usually provided by electrical team but occasionally must build panel themselves from technical drawings
  • Configure operation of panel according to specification requested from client
  • Cut boom for barrier and build skirt if required, we have a person dedicated to doing this
  • Set up & test barrier
  • Prepare equipment for factory acceptance testing and complete appropriate paperwork
  • Run through operation with quality engineer who will sign it of operationally if all complies with specification and acceptance testing
  • Clean cabinet, apply safety and company stickers to cabinet.
  • Final sign off from quality engineer
  • Wrap cabinet, boom, extra parts requested by client, ready for dispatch
  • Use manual handling equipment where required 

Functions of Supervisor:

  • To oversee all above and also build barriers themselves
  • To plan according to deadlines set by upper management
  • Clearly and concisely communicate with all levels of personnel
  • To make sure we have all components necessary for current and upcoming jobs
  • To make stock manager and upper management aware of shortages so they can plan accordingly
  • To assess job specifications and raise any queries early in the process
  • To promote a hard-working environment and lead by example
  • To take pride in their work
  • Overtime is necessary at times to get the job done
  • Collate materials required to complete bespoke product manufacture. This may involve unloading deliveries
  • Recommend resources and training, to ensure that the organisation can meet future demands from its customers
  • Display a proactive attitude within the organisation with a culture of ‘right first time’ and ownership of problems

Challenges:

  • Chasing shortages - We need to be aware of these very early on so something can be done weeks in advance before deadline
  • Managing the team:
    • When deadlines are not imminent, it is easy to slow down the pace of work. We need the efficiency to stay high so that we are ahead of deadlines, instead of working up to the last minute to complete the job and rushing into the next one.
    • Making the team aware there are deadlines coming up and that it would be appreciated if they arrange to do some overtime near or on the deadline date to help the team and company complete a collective goal.
  • Deadlines can change weekly, so you need to be able to adapt and react quickly  

The Person:

  • Good mechanical knowledge
  • Good electrical knowledge
  • Good hydraulics knowledge
  • Ability to read technical drawings
  • Experience of using hand tools such as drills, screwdrivers, sockets etc. is essential
  • Supervisor experience
  • Strong work ethic
  • Willing to do overtime
  • Good at planning
  • Authoritative
  • Concise with relaying information to Production Engineers
  • Being able to work efficiently when meeting tight deadlines
  • You must be able to work under pressure and prioritise tasks
  • A forklift license would be an advantage

Positions available include:

  • Supervisor of Barrier Assembly Section for morning shift

Working Hour Shift:

  • 41.5hrs a week 
  • 7:30-4:30pm (Monday – Thursday)
  • 7:30-3:30pm (Friday)
