About us
The Carers Centre for Brighton & Hove was established in 1988. It is a registered charity (No.1015728) and a company limited by guarantee (No.2758481).
The Centre works with family/informal carers, resident within the unitary authority of Brighton and Hove.
Carers are defined as:
“Anyone who spends a significant proportion of their life time providing unpaid support to family or friends. This could be caring for a relative, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse problems.”
(National Carers’ Strategy, 2008)
Referrals of carers to the project have increased year on year, with contact now having been made with over 3,900 carers in Brighton & Hove since 2007.
We have a team of twenty three full and part-time staff, the majority of whom offer direct support to carers.
We are run by a Management Committee of local volunteers and are independent from the local authorities and NHS services.
