About us
HOUSE is a curated and commissioned visual arts festival, which takes place in May during the Brighton Festival period. Central to HOUSE 2014 is invited artist Yinka Shonibare MBE’s new site-specific installation The British Library, a co-commission with Brighton Festival. Presented in the former Reference Library in Brighton Museum and Art Gallery Shonibare MBE’s piece explores the impact of immigration on all aspects of British culture and considers notions of territory and place, cultural identity, displacement and refuge. *Exclusive opportunity for volunteers to help create Shonibare MBE’s installation, see below for further information Selected artists Leah Gordon, Phillip Hall-Patch, Ester Svensson & Rosanna Martin and Tobias Revell make a point of connection with Shonibare’s new work, in a compelling series of four new curated commissions across the city at Regency Town House, The Brighton Waste House and Lighthouse. HOUSE, now in its sixth year, is a key part of the Brighton Festival season, and takes place in various locations across Brighton & Hove. Celia Davies of Photoworks is Guest Curator for HOUSE 2014.
