CFD Design Engineer

Hours of work: Monday to Thursday 8.45am – 4.55pm, Friday 8.45am – 4.25pm (37 hours)

Package: Salary dependent on experience, Technical Bonus, Annual leave 25 days plus bank holidays, Company Pension, Life Assurance, EAP

High-level role responsibilities

  • Develop and continuously improve the company’s CFD capability, methods, tools and best practices.
  • Plan and conduct CFD studies across ventilation products, including fans, air-movement systems and heat-recovery units.
  • Develop robust simulation models covering airflow, pressure distribution, heat transfer and product performance.
  • Provide accurate performance predictions and clearly communicate modelling assumptions, limitations and risks.
  • Translate simulation results into practical engineering recommendations for product optimisation and compliance.
  • Work closely with design engineers to influence product geometry and performance from the concept stage.
  • Integrate CFD into the new product-development process to reduce technical risk and physical prototyping.
  • Correlate CFD predictions with experimental data and develop robust verification and validation methods.
  • Plan and deliver CFD activities across multiple concurrent projects in line with agreed priorities.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly and share CFD knowledge across engineering and non-specialist teams.

Essential skills and Experience

  • A 2:1 bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Product Design Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • 2 years minimum applied Experience
  • Strong industrial or product-development experience in CFD analysis.
  • Practical application of fluid mechanics, aerodynamics and thermodynamics to engineering problems.
  • Proficiency with CFD software such as ANSYS Fluent, CFX, Star-CCM+ or an equivalent package.
  • Strong understanding of meshing, turbulence modelling, solver selection and simulation setup.
  • Experience verifying and validating CFD models against experimental or test data.
  • Ability to interpret complex simulation results and translate them into clear, evidence-based engineering recommendations.
  • Strong planning and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple analyses and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
