Mechanical Design Engineer
Hours of work: Monday to Thursday 8.45am – 4.55pm, Friday 8.45am – 4.25pm (37 hours)
Package: Salary dependent on experience, Technical Bonus, Annual leave 25 days plus bank holidays, Company Pension, Life Assurance, EAP
High-level role responsibilities
- Develop ventilation products from initial concept through design, validation and introduction into production.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models of components and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor.
- Design plastic injection-moulded, sheet-metal and other manufactured components using appropriate engineering materials and processes.
- Build and maintain complex CAD assemblies containing multiple components and subassemblies.
- Produce accurate part and assembly drawings to BS 8888 and manage associated engineering documentation.
- Develop practical, innovative and cost-effective solutions to product-development briefs.
- Support prototype manufacture, concept validation, product testing and design refinement.
- Apply engineering analysis, including FEA and CFD where appropriate, and manage subcontracted analysis activities.
- Work with suppliers to review tooling proposals and coordinate design and project activities.
- Plan and deliver assigned projects within agreed time, cost, quality and performance requirements.
Essential skills and experience
- A relevant engineering qualification, preferably a 2:1 bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical or Product Design Engineering.
- A minimum of two years’ experience in a mechanical design or product-development role.
- Strong 3D CAD capability using Autodesk Inventor or comparable parametric design software.
- Experience designing plastic injection-moulded and sheet-metal components for manufacture.
- Experience creating and managing complex assemblies and producing engineering drawings to BS 8888.
- Knowledge of engineering materials, manufacturing processes, fastening methods and design for manufacture.
- Experience developing products for volume or flow-line manufacture and working with suppliers.
- Strong planning, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to manage changing priorities and deliver accurate work on time.
