Technical Author

Hours of work: Monday to Thursday 8.45am – 4.55pm, Friday 8.45am – 4.25pm (37 hours)

Package: Salary dependent on experience, Technical Bonus, Annual leave 25 days plus bank holidays, Company Pension, Life Assurance, EAP

High-level role responsibilities

  • Compile, write and produce user, installation and servicing manuals for new and existing products.
  • Translate complex product information into clear, accurate and user-friendly technical content.
  • Tailor manual content and presentation to suit users, installers and service engineers.
  • Liaise with Engineering, Product Management, Approvals, Technical Support and Service teams to establish documentation requirements.
  • Collate and verify technical information, illustrations, fitting instructions and wiring details.
  • Create and manage technical illustrations and other visual content required within product manuals.
  • Maintain existing manuals to reflect product changes, regulatory updates and formatting improvements.
  • Control manual revisions and document filing through the Engineering Change process.
  • Coordinate translated manuals for Group markets, including managing external translation suppliers and purchase orders.
  • Plan and deliver documentation activities in support of new product-development timescales.

Essential skills and experience

  • Experience producing user, installation and servicing manuals for technical products, ideally within HVAC or a comparable industry.
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to explain technical information clearly for different audiences.
  • Strong understanding of technical illustrations, fitting instructions and electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Proficiency with technical publishing or design software such as Adobe InDesign.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience working with document control, drawing-management or engineering data-management systems.
  • Familiarity with CE/UKCA approvals and relevant product, installation or regulatory standards.
  • Strong workload-management and organisational skills, with excellent accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
