Tate are seeking a highly organised and detail-focused Payments Officer to join an educational establishment in Brighton. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong finance administration experience who enjoys working accurately, supporting colleagues, and delivering a reliable service to staff, suppliers and creditors.

About the Role

Working as part of a supportive Finance Department, you will play a key role in processing payments, matching invoices, reconciling creditor accounts and responding to technical queries. You will also develop a strong working knowledge of the online expenses system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process payments to creditors promptly, accurately and in accordance with agreed payment terms.
  • Ensure all payments comply with the establishment's financial regulations and statutory requirements.
  • Match invoices, review accounting records and reconcile creditor accounts.
  • Respond to supplier, creditor and staff queries, including more complex technical issues relating to payments and expenses.
  • Prepare, maintain and organise payment records to a high standard.
  • Support the processing of hospitality, travel, subsistence and expense payments.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the online expenses system.
  • Support the development and improvement of payment systems, including paperless processes, scanning, automatic matching and other new technologies.

Skills/experience

You will be a proactive and accurate finance professional with a strong customer-service approach. We are looking for an individual with the ability to demonstrate excellent attention to detail, good communication skills and the ability to remain calm and positive when working to deadlines. Experience of accounts payable, invoice processing, expenses systems or creditor reconciliation would be highly beneficial.
