About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistant / Learning Mentor to support students facing a range of barriers to learning.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with young people, supporting their academic progress, wellbeing, and personal development. You will play a key role both in the classroom and through targeted interventions, helping students to thrive and reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students in lessons across a range of subjects
  • Work 1:1 and with small groups to deliver targeted interventions, particularly in literacy and numeracy
  • Act as a mentor for a group of students, supporting their progress and wellbeing
  • Help students develop independence and confidence in their learning
  • Support teachers in raising attainment and engagement
  • Provide pastoral support and promote positive behaviour
  • Supervise students during break and lunchtime, offering structured activities where required
  • Contribute to student progress monitoring and feedback

What We're Looking For

  • A passion for working with young people
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
  • A flexible, proactive, and team-oriented approach
  • Understanding of barriers to learning and how to support students effectively

Essential:

  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above)
  • Experience working with children or young people (formal or informal)

Desirable:

  • Relevant Level 3 qualification (or willingness to complete a Teaching Assistant apprenticeship)
  • Experience supporting students with additional needs

Professional Development

Candidates who do not already hold a Level 3 qualification will be supported to complete a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship as part of the role.
