If you know payroll inside out and like the idea of running your own portfolio without being buried in red tape, this one's worth a look.
A well-established, ACCA-registered accountancy firm in Sussex is looking for a Payroll Administrator to join their friendly team of 20-plus. They look after a broad mix of owner-managed businesses, so no two payrolls are quite the same, and you'll be given real responsibility from day one.
This is an established role with a settled client portfolio ready for you to take over, so you're stepping into something that already works rather than starting from scratch.
Happy to hear from both practice and industry payroll people. If you've run payroll in-house and fancy the variety that comes with a client-facing role, don't rule yourself out.
What you'll be doing:
- Running up to around 150 client payrolls of varying sizes, start to finish
- Handling starters, leavers, SSP, SMP, SPP and auto-enrolment pension contributions
- Managing year-end processes
- Calculating holiday entitlement and pay
- Liaising directly with clients, answering queries and offering practical advice
- Completing BACS and pension submissions, and filing everything HMRC needs
What they're looking for:
- Solid, hands-on payroll experience (practice or industry both welcome)
- Confidence processing payroll and auto-enrolment from start to finish
- Someone comfortable dealing with clients directly
- Good with numbers, organised, and able to keep several things moving at once
- Sage Payroll experience is a real plus, though not essential if you pick things up quickly
A note on hours and flexibility:
This is a full-time, office-based role, so no hybrid or home working. What you do get is proper flexi-time, which gives you genuine control over your day. Core hours are 10:00 to 12:30 and 14:30 to 16:30. Around those, you can work your remaining hours flexibly between 08:00 and 10:00, 12:30 and 14:30, and 16:30 and 18:30. Handy if you want to start early, beat the traffic, or work around the school run.
Also on offer:
- Salary of £28,000 to £31,000, depending on experience
- 20 days holiday plus bank holidays, rising with length of service
- Health insurance benefits
- Regular team socials through the year
- A supportive team that genuinely enjoys working together
