School The Gatwick School
Location: 23 Gatwick Road, Crawley, West Sussex, RH10 9TP, or any other
location within a reasonable distance from the school at which
examinations may be taking place
Grade: West Sussex NJC Pay Scale; Grade 4; SCP 5
Working weeks: Term time only
Role purpose
To provide support to the school and pupils during the examination process
.
Key tasks
• Assist with setting up examination venues by laying out stationery, equipment and
examination papers in accordance with the outlined procedures
• Supporting with setting up the tables and chairs, if required, in accordance with
procedures
• Supporting individual candidates by either writing responses or reading questions to
them, if required
• Assist candidates prior to the start of examinations by directing them to their seats and
advising them about possessions permitted in examination venues
• Ensure that candidates do not talk once inside the examination venue
• Invigilate during examinations, dealing with queries raised by candidates and dealing
with examination irregularities in accordance with strict procedures
• Check attendance during examinations
• Record details of early leavers and collecting their scripts
• Escort candidates from the examination venue during the examinations as required, and
supervising candidates whilst outside the examination venue
• Collect and collate scripts at the end of the examination in accordance with strict
procedures
• Assist with the preparation of script envelopes
• Supervise candidates leaving examination venues, ensuring that candidates do not
remove equipment or stationery from the venue without authorisation and ensuring that
candidates leave venues in an orderly and quiet manner
• Pack examination papers, stationery and equipment prior to the examinations and the
delivery to and from venues as appropriate

• Deliver scripts to departmental and school offices
• Build and maintain successful relationships with candidates, treat them consistently, with
respect and consideration
• Demonstrate and promote the positive values, attitudes and behaviour you expect from
the candidates

• Participate in training and other learning activities offered by the school

• Maintain confidentiality on all school matters at all times
• Follow all legislation and best practice relevant to your role
• Follow all school and Aurora Academies Trust policies, procedures and guidelines
Safeguarding and Child Protection
• All staff have a responsibility for providing and safeguarding the welfare of children and
young people they come into contact with
• All staff must comply with the school’s Safeguarding Policy
• If, in the course of carrying out the duties of the post, the postholder becomes aware of
any actual or potential risks to the safety and welfare of our pupils, these concerns must
be reported immediately in accordance with the policy
• It is a requirement of the role that appropriate safeguarding and child protection training
is undertaken
• A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check will also be required, and any additional
checks recommended by Keeping Children Safe in Education may be undertaken (which
may include online and social media checks)
